As a certified Andover Educator, Dr. Johnson regularly presents both the "What Every Musician Needs to Know About the Body©," course and "What Every Organist Needs to Know About the Body"©. Each is a six-hour course designed to offer clear, concise, specific information about the body, body maps, and movement for musicians, setting each participant on the path of self-evaluation and development. BODY MAPPING is the conscious correction and refining of one's body map to produce efficient, graceful, and coordinated movement. Each has a body map already in place - one's self-representation in one's own brain (or the assumptions of conception) of what the body is like. Virtually all movement is produced based on what each believes his/her body map to be. If the body map is accurate, the movement is accurate, and effortless, however if the body map is faulty, the movement will suffer. Body maps are developed over time, and, if erroneous, can be corrected. Some body map and movement corrections occur almost immediately while others take some to develop. The information provided in the body mapping courses and private coaching emphasizes the importance of accurate body maps to musicians.
