Group Lessons

Peggy Johnson will travel to any location to introduce and teach Body Mapping. Shorter workshops (appropriate for choir retreats, AGO chapter meetings, pedagogy conferences) as well as full courses may be scheduled for musicians of all specialties, or for a group of musicians working with an individual instrument (such as organ, voice, etc.). Please inquire as to current rates for group lessons and workshops.

ACADEMIC RESIDENCY COURSE OPTIONS

Local musicians and music faculties at universities and festivals benefit greatly from residencies of any length by Andover Educators.

A one-day to one-week residency can help music schools prepare for the new occupational safety and health instruction requirements from the National Association of Schools of Music.

CREATING THE SCHEDULE OF THE RESIDENCY

It is best to think of the residency as informing teachers and professionals first and students second. Faculty members then have a resource to pass on to all students, present and future. Offer an introductory session for all faculty members if this is at all possible, even if it is only an hour. This gives all faculty members the most concrete information about what is being offered. Several scheduling options are possible for the course What Every Musician Needs to Know about the Body or What Every Organist Needs to Know about the Body.

It can be offered 1 1/2 hours a day for five days, during an hour as convenient for faculty and students as possible.

The course can be scheduled for a weekend, over two days, so there is plenty of time for experimenting, one on one, with the material.

Studio classes are the best possible opportunity for instruction in a residency, with the presenter attending classes throughout the residency as the guest instructor for the day. In addition, many Andover Educators offer recitals and master classes.

Individual Lessons

Changing one's body map and enhancing one's movement sometimes requires more time than is available in a group lesson. In the individual lesson, Dr. Johnson uses verbal coaching and gentle hands-on work to guide movement that enhances the student's movement awareness. Practical and relevant anatomical information is shared as it becomes necessary.

After the initial session, it is usually best to follow-up with several shorter lessons that are scheduled relatively close together. If the work proves valuable to you and you wish to continue, additional lessons are recommended at the rate of weekly or bi-weekly. Beginning students usually take 1-hour lessons. Everyone responds uniquely, so individual circumstances are always taken into account when determining the number and frequency of individual lessons.

Many musicians find it difficult to travel for bodymapping lessons on a regular basis due to their performing commitments. Understanding these difficulties, individual and group lessons are also available via webcam and/or video conferencing. Please inquire if this is of interest to you.

Individual Lesson Rate for 1 hour is $75.00.
